If oral medications do not work or are contraindicated we move onto other options. This includes penile injection therapy. This is just what it sounds like. Prior to intercourse a needle is inserted into the side of the penis and this increases blood flow into the penis. While effective for many men it is not effective for all. Some men discontinue this therapy because they cannot tolerate injecting themselves.

There is also MUSE or a urethral suppository. This is rarely used because of expense, penile pain and lack of effectiveness.

If the above therapies do not work or are not desired/tolerated then a man can give consideration to a penile implant. This is a hydraulic device where cylinders which fill with fluid are implanted into the penis. This is an outpatient surgery with a recovery of 1-2 weeks.
